Problem

Jenseits von Millionen, a local festival in Brandenburg, Germany, stands out through its intimate setting, community values and focus on sustainability and regional culture. The challenge was to translate this feeling into a design that feels unique and atmospheric, but also works consistently across different formats and can grow with the festival over time. At the same time, it needed to connect with a young, culturally aware audience.

Insight

Festivals are not just events – they create temporary worlds. The word “Jenseits” (“beyond”or "on the other side") shaped the core of the visual concept. Jenseits von Millionen is about leaving reality behind and sharing a collective, almost dreamlike experience.

Approach

Through sketching and visual experimentation, I defined three key elements which formed the foundation of the identity. Visual metaphors such as the hot air balloon, the open sky and the eye translate this feeling into design: rising above the ordinary and connecting with others on a more conscious level.

Main Poster

The festival’s main poster was created in Procreate, with hand-drawn elements and textures to give it a more organic character.

The Logo

The logo is designed to be clear, recognisable and adaptable for future use. It incorporates one of this year’s key design elements, the eye, and works flexibly across different colours and sizes.

For future applications, the logo works even without the eye – it could simply represent an “O”, or an apple, a sun, etc.

Colour and typography

The colour palette is inspired by the shifting tones of a sunset, combining cool blues with warm hues. This contrast reflects the transition from day to night, the time when the festival comes alive.

The typography balances between structure and playfulness. The primary typeface brings a friendly and slightly playful tone with a subtle handcrafted feel. It is paired with Moonblossom, an organic and irregular typeface that adds character.

Social Media

For the Instagram feed, I designed a variety of backgrounds and shapes that can be flexibly combined with one another. The animated eye illustrations can also be used as searchable GIF stickers for Stories.

Wayfinding & Goodies
